The pre-fight buildup for Canelo vs. Golovkin is moving on to Chicago.

HBO Pay-Per-View, which is broadcasting the long-awaited middleweight championship bout between Saul (Canelo) Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin on Saturday, Sept. 16 in Las Vegas, last week hosted a fan-friendly, pop-up event in Los Angeles celebrating the long-awaited fight.

On Sept. 8, Windward Plaza at L.A.’s Venice Beach was the site of a day-long series of events that included free boxing training classes run by former pro fighter Alex Brenes of City of Angels Boxing, an outdoor screening of HBO’s “24/7 Canelo-Golovkin” — the acclaimed documentary series that took an in-depth look at both boxers and the behind-the-scenes action leading up to the fight — and a live panel of boxing experts that included Brenes, TV sports reporter Jessica Rosales, sportscaster Ricardo Celis and others.

From noon to 9 p.m., Chi-town’s Harrison Park will host family-friendly activities similar to the Los Angeles pop-up.

With the action centered in and around HBO’s tricked-out container, fans of all ages will be treated to day-long screenings of “24/7 Canelo-Golovkin,” special boxing presentations by experts and trainers from local gyms, a display of boxing memorabilia, gift-cards and other giveaways, and more.

The Canelo vs. Golovkin HBO pay-per-view telecast, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, will begin at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT on Mexican Independence Day, Saturday, Sept. 16.
