The original Google Pixel gets a $200 discount ahead of Pixel 2 launch – The Verge

Google’s Pixel has famously had some serious stocking issues over the last few months, but not only is Google’s smartphone now in stock, it’s even on sale. The deal is part of the Google Store’s Back to School event, and it’s one of the first major deals we’ve seen on the Pixel and Pixel XL since their release last October.

The Pixel XL is getting the best deal of the two, with Google cutting the price from the original $769 to $569, while the smaller Pixel goes from $649 to $524 for a savings of $125. Plus, Google is sweetening the deal even further by throwing in a free Daydream View headset with any new Pixel purchases. (You’ll have to add the Daydream View to your cart alongside the Pixel, at which point the discount will apply when you check out.)

It’s important to point out that it’s currently the middle of August and we’re expected to see an upgraded Pixel 2 line release some time in the next few weeks. If the pattern holds from last year, it will be in October, which is worth considering if having the latest and greatest smartphone is important to you. That said, the Pixel is still a great phone, with one of the best cameras seen on a smartphone to date, and it should be getting an upgrade to Google’s newest Android O operating system sooner than any other device on the market, so it’s certainly not a bad purchase if you decide to go that route.
